Patrick Bowman

Deceased Date: 1996-10-15
Patrick Bowman (Class of 1973)

Despite serious automobile crash. Pat Bowman, 41, wouldn't give up.

Pat Bowman was a fighter.

Mr. Bowman suffered a near fatal car crash in 1972 and was in a coma for nearly a year. Family members and volunteers helped him with thousands of hours of therapy and he recovered slowly.

“He was simply someone who never quit," said his brother, Kerry. "No matter how large the odds against him.” Mr. Bowman, 41, died from complications from the 1972 car accident on Tuesday October 15, 1996, in his Beverly Hills home.

Mr. Bowman was 18 and planning to go to Eastern Michigan University to study engineering when he lost control of his car trying to avoid a road hazard. He was thrown from his car and sustained injuries that caused him to be in a coma for about a year. Slowly, Mr. Bowman came out of his coma, and first relearned to communicate by blinking his eyes and later by creating his own sign language, letter by letter. Although the doctors had given up hope for his recovery, his family organized volunteers from the community to help with his therapy.

“I was only about 12 at the time, but I remember how lawyers worked with cheerleaders and housewives worked with high school football stars to help my brother try to get on his feet” Jerry Bowman said.

"He made progress, but it was extremely slow” said his mother, Kathleen Bowman "We never knew when it was going to click.” During the next 10 to 15 years, he regained his speech, learned to feed himself was able to balance himself briefly on solid ground. "Everyone's goal of seeing him walk seemed within reach," his brother said. About two years ago Mr. Bowman's progress began to slow. He was affected by a series of chronic problems that affected his circulation and his breathing.

“All the while, nurses and doctors and everyone he met would walk away in amazement," his brother said. In addition to his brother and mother, survivors include three sisters, Judy King, Vicki Pistor and Linda Cellar; and three additional brothers, Michael, Kerry and Mark.

Services were to be held 11a.m. today in the A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 4375 N. Woodward, Royal Oak. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Memorials may be sent to the Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential, 8801 Stenton, Philadelphia, Pa. 19038.

I did not know Scott real well but we would talk on occasion and we would always say hi when passing each other in the hall. We played a couple PU basketball games at school. He was a nice guy and good student I think. Prays and condolences to the family. It is so hard to lose our loved ones. And Scott was a good guy.
Marty Flynn - January 7th, 2022
I remember Scott loving every minute, and parsing over every word of the televised Watergate Hearings at Lahser. And other things, that I can’t discuss! Ah, youth. He was a fellow Brother of Delta Chi at MSU. Years later, he sold and installed the massive carpeting orders for the Auto Show circuit, where he was always a familiar and welcomed face each season. Mark Coats

Birth Date: 1953-12-19
Deceased Date: 2017-05-01
Mark Donald Coats - Class of 1972

Mark was born in Detroit Michigan, the son of Donald Harold and Helen Elizabeth (Hallberg) Coats. He studied Advertising Design & Photography at College for Creative Studies in Detroit. He was married twice, in 1993, to Laura Lee Walko in Boynton Beach, FL and in 2016, to Cindy Marie Brian in West Palm Beach FL.

Mark fondly regaled his adventures with John Canavan and Jeff Mueller on the Man-in-Nature trip on his Facebook page - a funny story you need to read.

Beginning in 2015, Mark entered into a spiral of health challenges that took him from us. A stroke in March 2015 was misdiagnosed; in September bladder cancer was found that never truly went away. In 2016 they determined he had Progressive Bulbar Palsy, a form of ALS. His close friend created a Go-Fund-Me page to support him, and perhaps help him fulfill his bucket list.

His friend Chris Caroline said of Mark "In spite of his adversity, Mark has kept a positive outlook with his humor, one of his greatest assets, still intact. He'll tell you he's had a "phenomenal life" however there are those "things" that he never got around to doing that he wishes he had."

This is awful news. I played football with Daryl and really liked him as a person. I know Daryl was a cop in Pontiac and ran into him a few times downtown in addition I was at a festival in downtown Pontiac and I had parked under a train overpass since there was no parking anywhere around the area. I got a parking ticket for parking there and I called Daryl and he did me a solid and took care of the ticket since the area had not had a no parking zone sign posted. That is the kind of guy Daryl was. A good man and a good friend. Peace be with you Daryl and may all your eternity be blessed with light and happiness. Condolences to the family. He was one of the good ones and too young to die.

Deceased Date: 2017-05-05
Elizabeth "Breezy" Green - Lahser Class of 1973

“It hurts my heart to say that my aunt Breezy Green passed away on Friday, May 5th. She was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Monday while walking her dog on West Cliff in Santa Cruz, and her injuries proved insurmountable. Breezy was without a doubt the most devil-may-care, fun-loving, independent, brave and genuine spirit I will ever know. She lived life to her own beat in the most inspiring way, and she will always be my hero for it. It's certainly no coincidence that the life of this margarita loving lady will forever be celebrated on Cinco de Mayo with a strong cocktail surrounded by family and friends.”
Mike Tigue - May 27th, 2022
Breezy grew up across the street from me on Hills Drive & Gilbert Lake Rd. She had a rebellious spirit and a smile on her face 24/7. She loved the outdoors and skying. She built a sweet little A-Frame house up in the Santa Cruz Mountains 20 minutes outside of the City of Santa Cruz that was pretty close to Off-the-Grid. I visited her a few times over the years, I never knew if my car would make it up her driveway. It was beyond steep, LOL. The drive to her house thru the mountains and trees was surreally beautiful. She Loved her Place! I miss you Breezy! Love Mikey Tigue
