So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: After graduating from high school, earned my degree in sociology and psychology from UNI and married my DMACC flame (Paulette). Lived in Victor, IA and served as an assistant manager of the town’s grocery store. After several years in that position, spent some time in the newspaper business selling ads, writing stories, etc, while also picking up teaching coursework at the University of Iowa. Took a first grade teaching position in Manning, IA and taught there for five years while spending my summers driving to Ames to obtain my MA in Education Administration. That resulted in me taking an elementary principal job in the Colo-NESCO School District for several years before making my final move to Boone where I served as elementary principal for 21 years. Retired 8 years ago and have enjoyed retirement!! Paulette and I have three adult children and enjoy four grandchildren. We will be celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary on August 5th. God has richly blessed our marriage and continues to do so in countless ways!! Looking forward to seeing you at the 50th!!!!

So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: Looking back at the last fifty years of my life, I feel really blessed to have spent my childhood in Ames. The town of Ames provided me with the protection of a smaller city but enough culture to be exposed to the outside world. The Ames school system gave me a great start in life. I am looking at my time in Ames with the perspective of living in the South (Dallas) and on the East Coast (Philadelphia).
I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Iowa. I spent the first two years after college living in Minneapolis. The good thing about living in Minneapolis is that I met my future husband, Steve. We started dating and discovered that we both were moving to Dallas, TX. I had decided to go back to school to receive my MBA at Southern Methodist University. After receiving my MBA, I spent the next few years working for Xerox Corporation serving the Oil and Natural Gas market. This was a major culture change for me working with the good old boys of Dallas. Lorimar production company, which was filming the tv show Dallas, was one of my clients during my years with Xerox in the 80’s. From Xerox I moved onto working for ADP in the Network Services Division. Through ADP with the help of Alan Greenspan’s Company, Townsend-Greenspan, we provided economic database information to the Chief Economists of Texas Instruments, EDS and LTV.
After becoming a mother to two sons, Stephen and William. I worked for Gymboree Play & Music Programs as Corporate Trainer and Director. This industry was much more conducive to being a working mother. I really enjoy being a wife, mother and grandmother to four grandsons. I love traveling to Destin, Florida on family vacations. Last summer I got to take the trip of lifetime to Malaysia to visit my daughters-in-law’s family. Two weeks ago, my youngest son, William got married on the beach in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. I am waiting for the wedding pictures to come back.
I imagine this might be one of my last trips back to Ames. Both of my parents have passed, and I have no family living in Iowa. I am anxious to catch up with many of you who had an impact on my early life.
