Deb Hunter (Routh)

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Early Childhood Teacher
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: Graduated from ISU with a degree in Child Development then moved to Kansas City, where I met my husband, Lane. He has 2 children - a son and a daughter. We also had a daughter while living in KC. We followed his career with our moves to Torrington, CT for 3 years, then to Naperville, IL for 13 years as he worked in the city (Chicago) and now have lived in Aurora, IL for 17 and counting. I have worked in different jobs using my major, and enjoy volunteering through opportunities in our church and community. My stepson lives close by and is single. My stepdaughter has a daughter getting her masters from Mizzou and a son getting a bachelors from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Our daughter lives in Moline and also has her degree in Early Childhood-working towards her masters. She is married with a 14 yr old stepson and she and her husband have 8 year old boy/girl twins.
My husband has a progressive illness that caused him to go on disability 17 years ago, so our retirement plans have not been what we thought they would be. We stay pretty close to home and enjoy our walks, finding music events to attend, and enjoying our family when we are able to get together. We feel very blessed with our life and respective health to the degree that we each have.
Looking forward to seeing everyone, and am so very impressed with these profiles from all of you! Ames was a great place to grow up, wasn't it? Stay safe and well!
Comment: Thank you to the committee for the time and hard work putting this together!

Sara McCormack Hoffman (Sara Houghton McCormack)

Marital status: Married
Children: 4
Occupation: Mayo Clinic General Internal Medicine Desk Operation Specialist
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: After graduating from Pomona College in California and back to Iowa State for graduate school in psychology, I moved to Minnesota. I met my husband, Jim, while taking ballroom dance lessons. We also loved canoeing in the Boundary Waters, skiing, travel and spending time with our extended families. Serendipitously, we had both loved spending time in western MN during our childhoods- Jim at his grandparents' farm and my family at Lake Minnewaska. We have created new memories with our four sons at both places. My career has been a combination of teaching and directing in psychology, early childhood and senior care. My "retirement" job as of a year ago has been at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in the General Internal Medicine department, where I meet patients from all over the world. In Red Wing, our home, I have acted incommunity theater play and served on the library board and the housing and redevelopment authority board. After our reunion, our family will go to our son, Michael's, wedding in Guatemala where his fiance's grandparents spent their childhood.

Trish Savage (Savage)

Marital status: Single again
Children: 3
Occupation: Retired from University of Missouri
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: I attended ISU my first year of college with the DECA scholarship (thanks to encouragement from Mr. Abel) and ended up graduating from Univ. of IA. My first job was working at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Ia. After 8 years, I decided to quit to stay home to raise our children. The most fun years of life (in addition to playing racquetball!) In 2000 we moved to Columbia, MO where I went back to the workforce. While working at the University of Missouri, I earned a Masters degree in PFP and worked for MU Extension as a Personal Finance Educator for various counties. My last few years were back on campus providing financial reports for Research Grants. I retired from MU Dec. 2021. My first fun event in retirement was to hike in Vermont with past college friends. I survived COVID by watching waaay too much Netflix, and taking care of home and yard; Now playing B-ball, soccer and Chutes & ladders with my (cute & fun of course) grandson in Columbia. Not too exciting a life, but, I am healthy and thankful for all the God-given conveniences in life.
Comment: It's been so fun connecting with classmates as we work on this 50th Reunion.

Susan Schmidt (Schmidt)

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Trust for Public Land, Minnesota Director, recently retired.
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: Fifty years have flown right on by! I graduated from University of Iowa in 1978 and headed to grad school at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota soon thereafter. I’ve worked in the field of community development and the environment since graduating, including very fun jobs in the non-profit sector, state and local government, Minnesota Legislature until finally landing with Trust for Public Land www.tpl.org as Minnesota / Northwoods Director the last 20 years. I call Saint Paul, Minnesota home. Married Dan Krivit in 1990 and welcomed two great kids into the world soon after. Both are living overseas now – Joe is in Cape Town, South Africa and Jenna is in Australia. Dan and I recently retired and have been focusing on some very fun travel. I also find more time to: take great walks, bike rides and occasional river paddles in some fun outdoor places nearby; reconnect with family and friends; read books again; volunteer in community; and, learn more about our world. (Never too late!) Looking forward to re-connecting with folks at the AHS Reunion social night on August 4.
Comment: Thank you for organizing!

Sally Robson (Scholten)

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Retired
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: In 2020 I retired after nearly 20 years as Advertising Manager for the Iowa Lottery, preceded by marketing for Iowa PBS plus statewide broadcasting sales and programming. My career was an enjoyable run for 43 years but there’s no looking back! I’m having a wonderful time now with travel (including a Route 66 road trip and a recent swing through ten states to visit eight national parks in 12 days!), lots of volunteering, and of course more opportunities to be together with family. Dick and I live in Clive, IA and will celebrate our 46th anniversary this month. We have three married kids plus five grandkids from ages 4-14. Fortunately, the 13 of us are all in IA and MN. In our retirement Dick and I have enjoyed international travel with my two Scholten sisters and their husbands. It’s true what they say – the family that plays together, stays together!
