Marital status: Married
Children: 0
Occupation: Retired
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: After graduation at AHS I attended Drake University for four years and then moved to Madison, Wisconsin where I received a MS degree. I remained in Madison for a few years working for the Department of Natural Resources and then moved to Corvallis, Oregon. In 1983 I joined the faculty at Oregon State University in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. Work at the department mainly consisted of researching the decline of salmon in the Pacific Northwest. In 1991 I married my lovely wife, Kelly. We have spent 32 fantastic years together with many four legged dogs and cats over the years. I retired from OSU in 2017 after 34 rewarding years with some great colleagues.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, hiking, fishing, mushroom collecting and spending as much time as possible outdoors. During the moist winter months of Oregon we try and escape to the warmer environs of Kauai.

Craig Woodard

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Retired (after 40 years with Bristol Myers Squibb)
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: After AHS, I graduated from the University of Iowa in ’77 with a bachelor’s degree in General Sciences, and in ’80 with a master’s degree in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health (now the U of I College of Public Health).

Following completion of my grad school preceptorship with the Johnson County Health Department in Iowa City, I conducted field research for the Institute of Agricultural Medicine at the U of I Oakdale campus. In September of ’81, I started in a new position with Bristol-Myers Company as Industrial Hygienist at their 2,000-person deep-tank pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D facility in Syracuse, NY.

After 5 years at the Syracuse site, I moved into a Corporate Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) auditing position for what had become Bristol Myers Squibb, and enjoyed ten years of global travel across all businesses and sites throughout the U.S., 30 countries, and six continents. Along the way, I obtained professional certifications in industrial hygiene (CIH) and safety (CSP). Best of all, I met and married my wife, Janis in 1986; today we are blessed to have two talented and beautiful daughters Mackenzie (RN, Clinical Instructor) and Kelsey (Clinical Researcher, Psychology).

In 1996, we relocated to Belle Mead, NJ where I worked out of the BMS Princeton, NJ office, most recently as Executive Director and Global Head, Environment Center of Excellence and Technical Support. I retired from the Company in 2021. Janis still enjoys her work as a Registered Nurse for an elementary school. As I ease into retirement, I keep busy doing some work on my own schedule, visiting with friends, providing on-call support to the kids, reading and exercising in the pool.
Comment: Thanks to the reunion organizers for pulling this event together. While we are not be able to attend in person, I have enjoyed reading about everyone’s adventures and updates on the reunion website. I feel very fortunate to be associated with such a great group of classmates!

Bianca Zaffarano

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Veterinary medicine
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: Traveling, practicing exotic companion animal medicine, being married to the same great guy for 40 years!, raising 3 kids. Lived in Europe, Upstate NY, Lexington, KY, went back to teach at ISU for 12 years, retired as COVID hit, then was wooed back to work for a young, exciting Veterinary emergency company, still working full time. Live in Minnesota, love social causes, theater, music, lots of outdoor sports, (including curling), good friends, good food and drink, company, laughter, and the relentless pursuit of stable health (seems to be a thing as we age!).

John Zmolek

Marital status: Committed Relationship
Children: 2
Occupation: Retired Credit Union Executive
So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: What a question! I'll stick to the more recent past. Since retiring as CEO of Verity Credit Union, I've been trying to learn German. There's a reason one should learn languages when they are young. Our 3 grandchildren live in Germany, which give me lots of practice. Jerry and I travel there frequently. I continue to be active in service, serving on several non-profit boards.
