So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: Art Director at a daily newspaper in MN then at several ad agencies in MN and WI, then ran my own marketing communications business in Madison WI until retired in 2018. Have two daughters from a first marriage, now happily in second marriage. Retirement is gardening at my home plus in a community boulevard volunteer garden, walking our golden retriever, and working at "mastering" painting, plus watching and attending Brewer games, and finding warm weather locations to go in January to escape WI. |

So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?: Halfway through my Junior year, my dad purchased a different farm about a mile away from where I grew up and it was in the Ballard School District with an Ames address, so I actually finished High School at Ballard. But always consider myself an Ames guy and was lucky to be raised in Ames. Managed to cram 4 years into 5 at Iowa State and went into banking in Minnesota after graduation in 1978. Worked at two banks in Minnesota and then 2 banks in Iowa before buying a golf company in 1989 and starting another company in the same industry. After 28 years in business, I sold the company which was 5 years ago and retired, spending time in homes in Clive and Scottsdale. |

So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?:
Growing old happens slowly at first. A gentle reminder arrives every ten years. Happy 30th - you're a full-fledged adult…40th - wait, where’d my hair go?… 50th - this is just the halfway point, right? Then it comes at you all at once. Suddenly, you're puttering in the garden and thinking that this is time well spent. You hear yourself sharing news of your colonoscopy with a neighbor. After years of tossing AARP magazine into the trash, an article on prostate health catches your eye. And then, boom, there's the announcement of your 50-year high school reunion. I enjoyed a 40+ year career as an art director and creative director working for ad agencies in Kansas City, Chicago, and Dallas. I met my beautiful wife, Jenni, in Dallas in 1986. We were married in Kauai in 1992. A few of you may remember that becoming a father carried an unknown level of genetic risk for me. But Jenni and I took a leap of faith and we had two healthy, terrific kids. Emily (26) and Zach (23) have been the unexpected joys of my life. I retired in 2021 but stay busy writing, painting, and composing, along with honing my puttering skills. Jenni and I also love to travel, which typically has us going back to Hawaii (12x) and somewhere else each year. After 50 years, I realize that a heartfelt thank you has little, if any, meaning. Even so, I want to acknowledge a special group of people, especially during my senior year, to whom I owe a debt of gratitude. Your friendship was generous, meaningful, and much appreciated. I was fortunate to have crossed paths with each of you and, from time to time, a memory will bubble up, reminding me of your kindness or simply putting a smile on my face. Thank you. All the best, Kim |

So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?:
Retired from US Army in 2001 (24 years) as a Lieutenant Colonel and from the State of Colorado as a Supervising Examiner (20 years) with the Division of Banking in 2016. While in the Army, I was the Commander of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (Bomb Tech vis Hurt Locker), worked with ammunition and explosives, and teaching young officers how to deal with senior officers. With the Division of Banking, I was a CPA, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), and a Certified Fiduciary and Investment Risk Specialist (CFIRS). Married for 40 years September 2023 to the love of my life and a fantastic mother and grandmother. Three fantastic kids, two married and one still single. Three great little grandsons. Have been traveling extensively since my wife (Karen) retired in 2017. We are into cruising, visiting Vegas, and everywhere we can in the US. I fish and hunt with my son as much as possible, particularly to Alaska (2 tours of duty there). |

So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?:
Trying to have as much fun as possible and stay alive to see my grandchildren (wish the kids would hurry up). After graduating from Iowa State, I made my way to Houston, Texas where I met my wife. We had two children and shortly thereafter, moved to Monterey, California. We spent four years in that wonderful place and then moved to Palm Desert (Palm Springs area) where we raised our children. After 25 years there, I retired and we moved to San Diego to be close to my son and daughter. My wife and I love to travel and sightsee which we do on a regular basis. We also love the beach and spend as much time there as we can. |

So, what have you been doing for the last 50 years?:
Looking back it seems the last 50 years have flown by. I never moved too far from home just Ames to Des Moines but have traveled at several different times in and out of the US. I am currently still working as a paralegal but considering retirement next year. My life over the past 50 years have been comfortable ones, no big exciting stories to tell or that I'm willing to tell. I have an adult daughter who is the best thing that ever happened to me. I don't have any grandchildren but do have a granddog who is as spoiled as mine is. I recently toured the new high school. It is beautiful and beyond anything we even probably could have dreamed of having. The students attending the new AHS are very fortunate. |
