Complexions 29th Anniversary Gala

Complexions Contemporary Ballet returns to The Joyce Theater to kick off its 29th Anniversary Season with two dynamic and inspiring programs. Widely known as one of the world's most culturally diverse contemporary ballet companies, Complexions brings together some of today's most talented artist athletes to deliver breathtaking and soul-stirring performances. Under the direction of co-founding Artistic Directors Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, the company is "forging a path for what ballet can be instead of what it has historically been." (The Guardian).

This year’s season will include world and company premieres by Complexions Principal Choreographer, Dwight Rhoden and celebrate choreographers Justin Peck, Ricardo Amarante, and Jenn Freeman.  Poetjournalist Aaron Paul Dworkin will join us for his debut season as Complexions Inaugural Poetjournalist-in-Residence. 

The Gala Night will include a tribute to the incomparable Sarita Allen, a former principal dancer of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and an original member of Complexions where she now serves as Artistic Advisor. Students from Howard University’s Pre-Professional Dance Program will perform Rhoden’s stirring Black is Beautiful marking the first time the made-for-film work will be performed live.

A VIP gala and dance party with the Artistic Directors, Artists, and special guests will take place immediately following the November 14 Opening Night Performance at the SIXTH FLOOR LOFT in Chelsea.
