Mrs. Mickens was born August 27, 1900 in Wolfe City, Texas, She was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Bailey) Dawson. She was married to the late Russell Mickens, who passed in 1971.
She was a graduate of Gibbons High School and held a B.A. degree from Texas College in Tyler, TX.
She taught school in the Glory Community, then in B. J. Graves (Delmar District) and was a subsitute in PISD for a number of years, retiring afgter teaching twenty five years.
She was a faithful member of the Johnson Chapel CME Church. She was Choir member and Sunday School Teachers.
She was a member of the American Woodmen and AARP.
Mrs. Mickens departed this lie Sunday December 6, 1992 at the St. Joseph Hospital n Paris, Texas.
She leaves to mourn her passing 6 grand-daughters, Janice Blackstone New Jersey, Carol Mickens Pennsylvania, Beverly Judie, Frances Scroggins, Laura (Woods) Bulluck and Charles Etta Daniels of Arizona. (2) Grandsons Larry Mickens Pennsylvania and Edward Daniels of Arizona. (12) Great-grandchildren (3) cousins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Junita Anderson, Lorena Harris and Mary Fuller and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a son, three sisters and a brother.
