Elma the seventh of eight children, was born to George Hill, Sr. and Irene Bullock-Hill on October 2, 1919 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Elma's parents, sisters and brothers al preceded her in death.

Elmas was baptized and saved at an early age at Cottrell Chapel C.M.E Church in Hot Springs, where she served as a memeber of the Choir, the Willing Workers and the Stewardess Boards.

Elma attended Goldstein Elementary and Langston high School from which she graduated in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

In 1941, Elma was joined in matrimony to John White, Sr. The following year they were blessed with their first son, John Jr. In the following years she was blessed with twin sons, Donald, who preceded her in death, Ronald and a daughter Mary.
John Sr. and Elma moved to Phoenix in 1958. (John Sr. preceded her in death in 1963) where she became a member of Phillips Memorial C.M.E. Church and remained a faithful member until her death. She was a member of the Stewardess Board, the Missionary Society and a former member of the Chancellor/Senior Choir.

Elma was joined in matrimony to Lester Shaw in 1968 and they shared their lives until the Lord called Lester home on November 18,2000.

Elma was called home to the Lord on Friday November 29,2002 while a patient in God Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Her loving family includes: sons, daughters-in-law, John and Margaret White, Ronald and Ann White, daughter Mary Fisher, special daughter Jeanne Trachta. Three grand-children, Retha Gree, Deborah White, John White III. Ten step-children, twenty-four great-grandchildren, Eleven Great-great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
