Join Cheshire Medical Center's Medical Forensic Care team in supporting survivors of sexual assault.
Over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes. Survivors often suffer from long-term health consequences as a result of sexual violence, including PTSD, substance use and abuse, chronic reproductive, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and sexual health problems. This means that as medical professionals we are caring for multiple survivors every single day, even if we are not aware of their past trauma. By understanding how common trauma is and how it impacts health, medical professionals can better evaluate our patient's health behaviors, priorities, risks, and goals to provide them with the very best, individualized care. Please help us raise awareness about the importance of providing and advocating for trauma-informed-care in all medical settings to better support our local survivors!
