Highlight(s) of last 50 years:
Unfortunately, I lost my home base connection to Glenwood when my family moved back to Denver. After graduation, I enrolled in business school and worked part time in retail. The following year, I got married and moved to Ohio for 3 years for my husband’s job. He was transferred again to southern California for 7 years where our son and daughter were born and our marriage ended. After receiving a company transfer to Colorado, I met my current husband and we added a daughter to make us a family of five. I continued to work in air freight transportation for 13 years until the industry took a downturn. I started my career over with the Colorado Judicial Department and obtained my paralegal certificate and associate degree. I held various court positions, worked in multiple state courts, and retired in 2012 after 20 years of public service and surviving breast cancer for the second time. I am so lucky to still be here and so thankful for the time retirement gives me to enjoy my family, to pay it forward & give back by volunteering, to dabble in arts and crafts, to enrich my brain through OSHER classes, and to hopefully renew friendships & travel once again. Cheers to 50 Years! |

Highlight(s) of last 50 years:
I never cared much for math in high school, but in my first week of college a math professor gave an assignment that changed my life. He told the class to write a computer program. Few of us had even seen a computer, but I thought it was fun, like playing a game or solving a puzzle. At that very moment I decided I wanted to write software for a living. But in 1970 if you told that to a college counselor, you'd get a funny look and a question like 'why would you want to do that?' So I ended up designing my own computer-focused curriculum. It was a decade before I actually landed a job writing software. I worked for Texaco, where my software was used throughout the US and even in Kazakhstan. To keep up with the rapidly changing computer industry I attended schools in places from Houston to Silicon Valley. I retired early in 2002 and started a software consulting business. There was a lot of work for little pay at first, but eventually I found clients that were a great fit and made a good living. A lesson learned was that keeping in touch with past coworkers and associates pays dividends for all involved. Being self employed offered a more flexible schedule, which gave me some time to serve on the board of the charter school my twins attended. We built a new K through 12 facility to replace modular classrooms, and the kids didn't have to graduate in trailers! I 'mostly' retired at the end of 2020, but still do a little software consulting. When our reunion committee was splitting up tasks for our 50+1 celebration, I naturally gravitated towards the tech stuff. Setting up and maintaining this website has been fun, and I hope you found it useful and enjoyable. I'm blessed to still be able to ski and ride motorcycles. I quit skiing for 15 years, but when my kids were in 5th grade they had a 'learn to ski day', and needed parents to help out. I got my old equipment out (skinny skis with straps instead of ski brakes!) and joined them. I was amazed at how my skills returned after only a single run. I've been skiing ever since, but on newer equipment! I've also taken some memorable long trips on motorcycles, including the coast of Maine, the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to Vancouver (including a section through ash from the St. Helens eruption just days earlier), Niagara Falls, the Ozarks, and some stretches of old Route 66. Interestingly my most spectacular ride was just a few years ago, when I rode Beartooth Pass, south of Red Lodge, Montana. |
