Dear Friend,

I hope you will consider donating to my fundraising page for the  Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation's Walk-n-Wheel event. This event takes place at our Annual Conference in Omaha during July.  As you may know, I went to work for them in the fall. I have found this experience to be very rewarding. It is wonderful to work with an organization that has passionate volunteers, medical professionals and staff. Everyone that I have met has heart's that are open to serve for the greatest good.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic bone disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily. It is also known as “brittle bone disease.” Osteogenesis imperfecta means “bone that is imperfectly made from the beginning of life.” A person is born with OI and is affected throughout his or her lifetime. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a complicated, variable, and rare disorder. Its major feature is a fragile skeleton, but many other body systems are also affected. OI is caused by a mutation (change) in a gene that affects bone formation, bone strength, and the structure of other tissues.

OI is a lifelong disorder and occurs equally among males and females and across all ethnic and racial groups. It is estimated that approximately 25,000 to 50,000 people in the U.S. have OI. With good medical management and supportive care, the majority of people who have OI will lead healthy, productive lives and can expect an average lifespan. The OI Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by OI through research to find treatments for a cure, education, awareness, and mutual support. We currently host 36 support and network groups in 26 states and provide support services to more than 100,000 people each year.

Any contribution you make will be greatly appreciated. I can assure you that the funds raised will be wisely spent.
