Our lives were changed forever on Thursday, September 29, 1994.

Getting together with friends was what Geoff Thompson had in mind on that crisp autumn evening. It would be a short ride, only six blocks away. He hopped on his bike and went out into the night. But it wasn't meant to be.

At 9:15 p.m., just a short distance from his own Northeast Minneapolis home, while riding alone on his motorcycle, Geoff was struck by a vehicle turning left in a well-lit intersection. The driver apparently did not see him approaching from the opposite direction. That short trip came with a price - a price Geoff paid with his life.

Tragedies like this occur on our streets and highways too often. This concern prompted the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to fund the Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Program.

As a motorcyclist, Geoff supported this effort and often expressed the wish that other drivers would respect the presence of the biker on the road. With Geoff's own concern as our motivation, we have chosen to support the Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Program with memorial money you graciously gave to our family.

In memory of Geoff, we are asking you to be part of the START SEEING MOTORCYCLES campaign. If we work together, the awareness will spread. If only one life is spared, our efforts will be worth it.

Thank you so much,
Geoff's family and his countless friends
