Hal Maury Ingman Jr.

Graduation year: 1973
Deceased Date: 2023-01-30
Obituary:
Hal Maury Ingman, Jr. passed away in January of 2022, at the age of 67. A private memorial service was held April 17, 2022, at the family farm.

Hal is predeceased by his dad; Hal Maury Ingman, Sr. He is survived by his mother Ann Ingman Phillips, son Hal M. Ingman lll, stepson Jeremy Hicks (Katie), sisters; Kathy I. Fletcher, (Tim) Marian I. Close, (Don) brother Robert B. Ingman (Desiree) and former wife Lynette D. Ingman. Nieces and nephews; Leslie Brennan, Kevin Fletcher, Robert Fletcher, Ryan Close, Katherine Close, Amanda James and Daryl Ann Ingman.

Hal was born in Miami Beach, Florida on December 8, 1954, to Hal Maury and Ann Brown Ingman. The family moved to Gainesville in 1958 where Hal had an idyllic childhood and was involved in many activities, especially sports! Whether it was Boys Club, Little League, City League, Church League, American Legion or Buchholz High---Hal was playing or coaching a sport. He was the most avid Gator football fan and in earlier years put on epic pre- and post-game tailgate cookouts. Hal earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest given in the Boy Scouts of America. He grew up attending the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.

Hal graduated from Buchholz High School, attended Newberry College in South Carolina and finished his degree at the University of Florida in Marketing and Business.

His huge personality and laugh could light up a room. He loved his family...and did I mention Gator football?

His passion for helping youth started at a young age. As a college student, Hal gave a middle schooler who needed to escape a bad family situation a place to stay in his apartment. Hal found his true calling in youth ministry and teaching. He started his teaching career at Buchholz High, then Horizon Alternative School and lastly at A. Quinn Jones. His huge heart and selfless desire to help others made it impossible for him to turn away from a student in need, whether it be transportation, a home cooked meal, a safe refuge or financial assistance, Hal was going to do what he could to help. He retired from the Alachua County School system in 2019.
