The Cheverly Women's Club was started in 1999, and it is still going strong. We currently focus our community work on growing seeds of peace. One activity we are involved in is sponsoring a one week summer peace camp for children.
We teach the youngsters skills of non-violence and peace. Campers range from 4 years to 14 years.
"These kids are guided in cooperation and conflict resolution. Campers learn to approach their problems peacefully. Campers are encouraged to create their own solutions to the problems they see.
Activities include: Art, Guest Presentations, Story Telling, Music, Cooperative Games & Much More!"
We work in close collaboration with the staff of Little Friends For Peace LFFP (www.lffp.org). LFFP is a non-profit organization that has a long history of conducting successful peace camps.
The purpose of this campaign is to enable children to attend camp who cannot afford to pay tuition. In 2017 the Cheverly Women's Club expect to sponsor registration fees for about 40 children. The event will take place the week of July 24 - 28, 2017 at the American Legend #108 in Cheverly.
This year, our local elementary school (Gladys N. Spellman Elementary School), is accommodating 22 children from other parts of the world.
We are reaching out to these youngsters as well as others in Cheverly to attend the camp.
We appreciate your kind support. Further information of previous Peace camp activities can be found at: http://www.cheverlywomensclub.org/
