Funeral services for John Robert Hellie of Albert Lea will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the East Freeborn Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea. The Rev. Marino Melsted will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, June 6, at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the East Freeborn Cemetery.

Mr. Hellie died Wednesday evening, June 4, 1997, as the result of an automobile accident. He was 25 years of age.

John was born Sept. 22, 1971, in Albert Lea, the son of Ted and Judy (Johnson) Hellie. He graduated from Albert Lea High.School in 1990. He was employed by the Sorenson Brothers Construction Co. and also farmed with his father in rural Albert Lea. He was a member of the East Freeborn Lutheran Church, and was a volunteer with the Manchester Fire Department.
John had a great love for the outdoors, riding his four wheelers, participating in pool league and spending time with his friends.

John is survived by his parents, Ted and Judy Hellie of Albert Lea; special friend, Sherri Christensen; sisters, Siri and her husband Mark Kalthoff of Eagan, Minn., and Jana Hellie and her fiancee Wayde Paulson of St. Cloud; grandparents, Walter and Elaine Johnson of Freeborn; aunts and uncles, Marjorie and her husband Osmon Way of Minneapolis, Wayne and his wife Sarah Johnson of Morro Bay, Calif., and Jill and her husband Jerry Morstad of Albert Lea; cousins, Chip (Chris) Way of Denver, Colo., Kami (Brian) Bandt of Minneapolis, Cory Way of Virginia, Eric Johnson of California, and Heather and Tim Morstad of Albert Lea; and other extended family.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Clara Hellie and aunt, Cheryl Gauss.
