Susan Buchheit (Mills)

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: K-12 Principal
Comment:

After graduating from UCONN I joined United Air Lines as a flight attendant for about six years before I met my husband, Rob Buchheit.  That was over thirty-one years ago and he is still my dearest friend!

We lived In Colorado for ten years, and then transferred to San Diego area where we lived for eight years, then on to Orlando, FL for almost three years, and now in Texas for over ten years.  We have been blessed to live in some beautiful places and make many extraordinary friends.

I worked for a Broker/Dealer in the Securities industry, and then began teaching High School when we moved to Texas.  I completed my Masters in Education and have recently become a Principal of a K-12 Charter School of about 400 in Waxahachie, TX.  Rob works for University of North Texas and is one of the best in charitable estate planning.   We love what we do, except our pace of life seems to be accelerating instead of  slowing down!

We have two wonderful and accomplished children.  Our son, Rob, Jr. and daughter-in-law, LeeAnn live with our two grandchildren in Woodbridge, VA where he is a nuclear physicist.   Our daughter will graduate from Baylor University in December after completing her marketing degree and  internship in London this fall.

We look forward to seeing you all for the next reunion.

Comment: Though I only attended DHS during my senior year, I have many fond memories, especially of the kindness shown by classmates to "the new kid."  I particularly enjoyed the friends in DHS drama, and I'm still in touch with George Harlow.  Married 33 years; have taught high school social studies in Palatine, IL for 32 years.  Wife Betty is a middle school librarian, daughter Amy (24) is an Army wife headed to grad school in '08, son Mark (22) is an actor/comic/student in nearby Chicago.
Best wishes to all! (P.S. Photo shows my family in Paris, June 2007)

Occupation: retired highway engineer
Comment: I am coming back for our 50th, my first reunion EVER!  It will be great to see all of you again.  I would love to hear from you in the meantime.

I am still retired from the Alaska DOT Construction Section and dividing time between Alaska and Washington State (we call WA "our Arizona").   I am quite content spending winters in a rural county in a gorgeous state between two fantastic cities, Seattle and Vancouver, BC.  I wish I could talk my husband into leaving AK, but he is too much a part of life in the far north.

The big draw in WA is our son, daughter-in-law and three granddaughters (ages 9, 5, 3) who live about two hours away.  Our son attempted to start a recreational marijuana grow operation when it was legalized in WA, but experienced all the pitfalls of starting a marginally legal, small business on a shoestring budget.  He is now back to cooking (and a regular income!).

I have been doing volunteer environmental work since retiring.  It seems the scene is really heating up recently!  Another consuming  task is to keep my aging body going and my mind sharp.  Are any of you facing these challenges, too?

See you in August!

Comment: Hi people, Who would think we all would be keeping track of each other on computers. I'm pretty new on this machine even though my ex worked in high tech for years. Now it's my poor daughter who is teaching me. I lived in Mass. for years after graduation in various places. I moved to Cape Cod and stayed for a few years. I was married to a great guy for 23 years, then we decided to part company. He is still my best friend and I see him often and we are on the phone a few times a week. It is a good thing and we get along much better now. I have two daughters. My first is now a doctor and in her 1st year of internship in Cal. My 2nd one is 21 and works for one of the casinos here in Ct. They are both great kids. I have been struggling with a shoulder injury that happened in Feb. 04. After two surgeries it looks like I'll be having a 4th. To keep busy I crochet blankets and have been pretty successful selling them. Best wishes to all. Bette Grant Capasso

Comment: We've been living in the Boston area for the last 27 years. We sold our house in Lexington 4 years ago and moved into a condo on the Boston Harbor. It's like being on vacation all of the time . Our son, Parker, lives in Houston and is expecting his first child in July. Our daughter, Brooke, is married and living in Pasadena. We spend our summers in Maine and are trying to decide where our next move will be-somewhere warm for sure so that we can play more golf and tennis! See you in September!!!

My husband, Seth, is a telecommunications consultant. Have two great kids--Erica is a resident of Boston after graduating from Tufts University and Josh is nearing completion of college at Kent State. Comment:

Did we get "Best Dressed" for our class?Jay and I have enjoyed living in Darien and raising our two sons here.  My whole family is still here so we feel very fortunate. Our lives have stayed very much the same as when we were young . We still love to go out in the boat and go to Vermont. I worked at Hindley School for many years as a teaching assistant. I am currently the director of a foundation that helps people with spinal cord injuries throughout the state of CT. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion...keep spreading the word and send your money!
