Valerie Lee Putman, 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from complications following open heart surgery.

Valerie was born on May 10, 1955, in Ogden, Utah to David William Putman and Norma Jean Downs Putman. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah. As she grew up, she enjoyed ballet, violin, and snow skiing, but by the time she reached high school her interests had shifted to art. After college, she performed as a Belly Dancer for a few years.

Valerie attended Davis High School in Kaysville, graduating in 1973. She then attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics. Years later she attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, and earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

She was a member of the Roman Catholic religion and in high school, she was active with the Catholic Youth Organization. She enjoyed participating in Shakespearean plays and activities, collecting unicorns. She was very interested in Asian cultures.

Valerie’s dogs, Sassy and Sweety, were the love of her life, they were her children. She is also survived by her brothers: David (Marjorie) Putman of Kaysville, Utah, and Christopher Raymond Putman of Ukraine. She was preceded in death by her parents: David William Putman and Norma Jean Downs Putman, and her sister, Jean Marie Putman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
