Liz Kagan

Liz Kagan

Kagan, Elizabeth Liz Freund November 11, 2011, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 17, 1944, and moved to Beverly Hills with her family in 1960. Liz graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1962 and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. After college, Liz worked as a social worker for many years, first in Los Angeles and then in Marin County. Liz was an avid reader and loved to travel, and later in her life, she was a travel writer and an active member of the San Francisco Tour Guide Guild, leading tours all over the Bay Area. Liz was known by her friends and family to be generous and loving, and she maintained lifelong friendships from grammar school and high school. Liz also loved animals and was a regular donor to the Marin Humane Society. She was a resident of Mill Valley for 41 years. Liz is survived by her husband of 23 years, Robert Kagan, as well as two stepchildren, Karyn Smith and Bradley Smith, and two granddaughters, Olivia Tucker and Emma Tucker.

Liz talked about this reunion often and was really looking forward to being here.  How sad that she was not able to be with all of us.  She was my neighbor on Thorndell Drive for eight years and a good friend.  In recent years she was a loyal "telephone companion" to several of us  and loved to talk about books, recipes, and her years at Ladue High School.  We will miss you, Liz!

Liz and I were married for 23 years and in all of those years she never really left St. Louis. Her heart and mind were still there and never forgave her parents for making her move in 1960. Throughout the years she maintained relationships with classmates such as Emily Gebhard, Bonnie Staffier, and Rich and Sue Miller.Liz was very excited about coming to the 50th and even made reservations. I wish you all a happy 50th and thank you very much for always making Liz feel at home.
