David Pointer, 70, of Clarinda, Iowa, passed away August 3, 2024, at his residence in Clarinda. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the Clarinda Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in David’s name to the American Cancer Society – Hope Lodge, Omaha, Nebraska at 8030 Farnam Drive, Omaha, Nebraska 68114. Memories can be shared with the family at www.nodawayvalleyfuneralhome.com. Arrangements were entrusted to the Nodaway Valley Funeral Home of Clarinda.
David Wayne Pointer, son of Harry Pointer, Sr. and Elsie (Brown) Pointer, was born on March 27, 1954, in Berthoud, Colorado. He graduated from Loveland High School with the class of 1972 and then attended Northeast Junior College in Sterling Colorado. He graduated from there with his associate’s degree in business.
David was united in marriage to Dawn Marie Bernhardt on September 11, 1977, in Fort Morgan, Colorado. This union was blessed with two children, Amber and Ryan. David began his career with Hewlett Packard and worked towards becoming a supervisor. After 17 years, David was transferred to an office in Oregon where he continued to work for HP for 15 more years. After 32 years with the company, David retired. He continued to keep busy working part time for Roche Construction with the maintenance department and also part time with Hampton Inn maintenance.
In 2017, David and Dawn moved to Clarinda to be closer to their grandchildren. It was important for David to be present, attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. He also worked with the Super 8 in Clarinda with the maintenance department. In David’s retirement he enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing. Being born and raised in Colorado, David enjoyed cheering on the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche. David was a member of the Clarinda Methodist Church during their time in Clarinda.
David was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Harry and Francis Pointer, mother and stepfather Elsie and Harold Meyer, brother Harry Pointer, Jr., sisters, Nina Krumtum and Louise Pointer and sister-in-law Janice Pointer.
Left to carry on his legacy is his wife Dawn of Clarinda; daughter Amber (Colby) Manes of Clarinda; son Ryan Pointer of Clarinda; grandchildren, Morgan, Wyatt and Isabella; sisters, Nelda Burch (Danny Craig) of Fort Collins, Colorado and Linda (Robert) Buderus of Wellington, Colorado; brother Larry Pointer of Aurora, Colorado; sister-in-law Dana (Doug) Fuller of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
