Miguel Diaz

I met Miguel at Crespi Park a short time after my family moved to MB from Miami in 1963. There was a group of us that grew very tight instantly. Scotty Rubin RIP, Mitchell Gilson, Miguel and I were inseparable. The bond was a love for all sports. We would be at the park right after breakfast and home usually a little late for dinner. Miguel and his family like lots of Cubans came over very young in '59. His family like most came over with the bare minimum, and became in short order hard working Cuban Americans! Miguel was a extremely good baseball player and under the tutelage of legendary coach Skip Bertman we won a lot of games. Miguel played a big part in our success! As with most high school friends you kind of unfortunately lose touch after going your separate ways. Thankfully, Miguel called me in Vegas and we got to have a great night out reminiscing about old times over dinner and drinks! I was heartbroken to hear of Miguel's passing around a decade ago. I'm thankful for the fond memories! RIP Miguel!
