Judy Obert Procunier
2023-05-18Judy was born in Spokane, WA to Lyle “Buddy” and Bernice Obert. The Obert family lived in Hillyard during her early childhood. When she was a young teenager, her parents built a house in the foothills of Mount Spokane. She roamed the property and Mount Spokane State Park with her siblings. She cherished many memories of picking huckleberries, exploring the woods, and even befriending wild animals.
She attended Mead High School in the mid-1970s. After working several jobs, she went back to school. She earned a surgical technologist certificate and worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center. She prided herself in her work and was part of a medical team that used the Davinci Robot. She also volunteered with Faith in Practice and traveled to Guatemala to help assist surgeries. She recently retired after 30+ years of service to SHMC.
In 1983, Judy married Gerald “Jerry” R. Procunier. They enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time together. Jerry could always make Judy laugh. They had one daughter named Jeannette. Judy loved creating memories with both Jerry and Jeannette.
Judy had a bright, creative mind. Her hobbies over the years included painting ceramics, baking, gardening, and the art of faceting (using geometry to turn gemstones into beautiful, sparkly objects). She appreciated all kinds of rocks, but gemstones were her favorite. Many family vacations revolved around finding these elusive treasures.
Judy’s survivors include her daughter, Jeannette (Joe) Fennel; siblings, Chris, Denise, Joe, John, Linda, Roselyn, and Steven; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Jerry R. Procunier; and her parents, Buddy and Bernice Obert.
Judy will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
