Born February 6, 1957, in Concord, CA, to Carl and Mary Lou Smith, Jeff passed away October 8, 2011, in Spokane Valley, WA. He grew up in Yakima, WA, and later moved to Mead, WA, where he graduated from Mead High School in 1975. He played coronet in the Mead Band. He worked at odd jobs, including as a yard attendant for P.I.E. He was also a keyboard player for several local bands, including Fast Eddy and Janet Foos. He also played guitar, and studied recording at EWU. Jeff moved to Sarasota, FL, and ten years later moved to Seattle. After the death of his brother, Greg, he returned to Spokane where he attended SFCC to study audio engineering. In April 2011, he was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. The disease progressed unusually fast and he was soon incapacitated with lung complications.
Jeff is survived by his brother, Scott Smith of Spokane Valley; and cousins, Heather MacLeod of Green Valley, AZ, and Kay Gentry of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Memorial services are pending. Memorial contributions may be made to House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave, Spokane, WA 99201.
