Publish in a newspaperwas born on May 9, 1958 to the late Coulter and Minnie E. (Driver) Hillman in Indianapolis, IN. He received his elementary education from Holy Angels Catholic School and graduated from Northwest High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Lakeland College, Master of Arts in Business Management, Troy University and culminated his academic career with a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy & Administration, Walden University.
was a military veteran and served 10 years as an Army Soldier. After his discharge from the Army he established a career in the interest of helping families and children. He devoted his life to make a positive difference in the lives of so many people. In 1996, he became the Director of the Lake County Office of Family & Children Services where he was responsible for the Food and Nutrition, Medicaid, and Child Welfare Protective Services for the most impoverished county in Indiana. In 2005, he became the Chief Executive Officer of Campagna Academy where he was responsible for day-to-day operations for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving 300-400 at-risk youth and their families. In 2014, joined the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Services, where he was the acting Director for the Special Nutrition Programs in the Midwest Region, at the time of his death.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 26 years and their two children, Michaela and Triston, Lycorice (fur baby), two brothers Darrell Whitfield of Birmingham, Alabama and Coulter Hillman (Charlene) of Indianapolis, IN, one sister Ruthann (Ronald) Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents Coulter and Minnie Hillman and one sister, Deborah (Hillman) King, and close extended family and friends, too many to name.
As a major contributor to the Northwest Indiana community and Midwest Region, his legacy of helping families will be long remembered.
