Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Forester
Comment:  Greetings to everyone. It doesn't look like I will make it to the reunion this year. After high school i went to NNC for 4 years graduating with degrees in recreation and sociology. I then went to U of Idaho in forestry while working on forest service fire crews. At Moscow I met my wife, Kelsey Hughes, an elementary school teacher. Together we have 3 sons and 3 grandchildren. Since 1975 I have worked in fire management and timber management. Currently I work for the Idaho Department of Lands. This job can have lots of travel (Alaska to Florida) getting an adrenaline rush from fighting fires as well as the more mundane timber work. I 2005 I completed a graduate certificate in Restoration Ecology from U of Idaho. My brain still hurts from doing graduate work in my 50's but it was worth it. I have noticed that the mountains are getting steeper, I finally put "gray" as my hair color on my driver licence, and somehow I manage to weigh more than I did in high school. I would love to have anyone stop by in Bonners Ferry if you are up north. We are only two blocks off the highway. Anyway have a good time and see you at the next one for sure. Stan

Brenda Gardunia (Orcutt)

Children: 5
Occupation: Education
Comment:      So much happens in 40 years.  Gary Gardunia and I got married right out of high school.  We have five children, four boys and a girl.  For 15 years we lived in Teton, Idaho. After 17 years, Gary and I parted ways and the kids and I moved back to Boise and I went to BSU and got my degree in Secondary Mathematics Education.  I taught school in Boise Idaho for 19 years, most recently at Frank Church High School.

I am currently on an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship working at the National Science Foundation in Washington DC. I will be starting my second year at NSF in September.  I will be returning to Idaho in the fall of 2012 and continuing my teaching career.

My children are living all over the US, giving me lots of excuses for traveling.  Marcus is in upstate New York and works for a computer chip manufacturing company, Brian is in Iowa and is a research scientist for Monsanto Seed, Anna has recently been retired from NASA shuttle program and moved back to Boise, Jon is a Physical Therapist in Twin Falls, Rich is in Colorado where his wife is going to graduate school.  All together, they have blessed me with 15 grandchildren.  I have returned to Boise for the month of August, but will be going back to Washington DC the first of September.

Life has been good with a few ups and downs.  See you at the reunion.

Diane Garmire (Rowen)

Marital status: Married
Children: 1
Occupation: visual artist/educator
Comment: I am sorry I will not be able to see you wild and crazies this summer. I will be spending a week in Seattle at the Arts Institute training for a new job. I guess they believe that an old dawg can learn new tricks after all! I had a great time at Deb Hiatt's last summer meeting up with about 15 lovely classmates and I was truly looking forward to seeing the larger group this summer.  I haven't retired yet, still teaching.  But I think perhaps retirement is lurking around the corner.  John and I have been married for 36 years now! Our son is in Mongolia and will return with his fiance'. She is immigrating to the U.S. I'm looking forward to the photos you'll post.  When in Cd'A give us a call!  God Bless you all! Find me on FaceBook as Diane Rowen.

Doug Gates

Occupation: retired banker / firefighter
Comment:  Attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a degree in Finance.  Met my current wife /girl friend at Idaho and married Julie in 1975.  We have two children, one who lives and works in Boise and the other is teaching in Japan.  Worked in the banking business for 20 years prior to growing up to be a firefighter.  I finally realized that I was getting old when I was assigned to a fire station where one of our classmates kid was working (ouch).  Played at various outdoor games such as mountaineering, kayaking and bike racing.  Volunteered for Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue for 13 years and was president of the organization.  Retired from bike racing due to lack of speed, skill and mass enhancement to become a USA Cycling official.  I've spent the last 10 years as a moto official, riding a motorcycle around the western half of the US working at UCI International and USAC National level professional races.  For fun I am currently searching for the fountain of middle age by spending time swimming with the pretty fish that populate the waters surrounding Hawaii. When I retire from the fire department I want to either become a clown for Cirque du Soleil or learn to surf. 40 years, wow, seems just like yesterday.............. and you know what crappy day yesterday was (my apologies to Rodney Dangerfield).

2021 Update:  Retired from Boise Fire Department 2013.

                      Beat cancer.

Still searching for the fountain of middle age.

Comment:

I worked at different jobs right out of high school. I did a lot of traveling and a couple of years ago my mom, some friends and I took an Alaskin Cruise. In 2006 I moved back to Nampa to live with my mom. I like to play pool, do scratch art and make latch hook rugs as a hobby. I volunteer at the Senior Center and have helped in the VA arts and crafts and taking patients to the rodeo, fair and etc.
