Comment:

It is hard to believe that it has been 40 years.  I don't feel that old!  I have lived in the Nampa-Caldwell area my entire life except for a short sojourn to Tulsa, Oklahoma right after graduation.  I have been married for almost 38 years to Jerry Smith.  He is a semi retired Police Officer (I say semi-retired because he can't seem to quit)  We have two wonderful sons who are age 32 and 27.  Both are married and live in the area.  My youngest is currently serving our country in Iraq.  My parents are still living on their own in Nampa at the age of 92.  I have worked for the State of Idaho for 40 years--39.5 for the same agency.  I still ride horses, garden, sew and read for hobbies.  I still keep in touch with some of my "friends from the old days" but I am looking forward to seeing more at the reunion.

After high school I worked for Crown Real Estate and Snake River Valley Home Builders. I met my husband Dave while rodeoing.  We were married in 1978.  In 1981 we moved to the Jordan Valley area and started ranching.  We have 3 children, Tyler (29), Lindsey (27), and Shane (24). Tyler and his wife Annie have a 2 year old daughter Kenzie, and they live near Homedale. (We love being grandparents.) Our daughter Lindsey works and lives in Ontario.  Our youngest son Shane will be starting his third year of Veterinary School at Washington State University.

We've watched our kids grow up through the ranks of junior, high school, college, and amateur rodeo associations. We have been blessed and fortunate to see our kids qualify for Idaho State High School Rodeo Finals, the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette, Wyoming and Farmington, New Mexico, and College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.

We have lived at Pleasant Valley for 30 years.  Dave has worked for the Owyhee County Road Department for 20 years.  I work at Pleasant Valley School as a teacher's aide and grounds keeper. We still have cattle which keeps us very busy.  We enjoy the life style we live, and the family and friends we share it with.

Maralyn Sommer

Marital status: Single
Occupation: College Administrator/Professor
Comment: After high school I attended Boise State and earned my Bachelor of Music degree in music education.  I taught music in Council, ID for two years then went on to the University of Colorado for my masters degree.  I taught four years at Adams State in Colorado and then went to University of Arizona for my doctorate in bassoon performance.  I moved to Arkansas in 1990 where I taught at Henderson State University.  I started out as Chair of the Music Dept. and professor of music.  In 1997 I became Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences and then Dean of Arts and Sciences in 2000.  I retired from Henderson in 2014, having served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs my last two years.

Upon retirement I joined a small group of women hikers and we enjoy weekly hiking in the beautiful state of Arkansas. I'm also actively involved in biking and RV'ing, traveling the country most of the summer months.  I am principal bassoonist with the Little Rock Winds and a free-lance musician in Little Rock.  I had a wonderful career and now enjoy being retired!

Occupation: Custodian
Comment: Well it's been 50 years.  We are getting old.  I still remember high school.  It was fun.  The school administration was a big help.  I really liked Track and Field.  My dream was to go to the Olympics.  The difference is I was not as large as I am now.  I like to work out and stay fit.  I will enjoy meeting everyone.  The last ten years I'm sad over the deaths of some of the classmates.
