William (Todd) Maclay

Todd was a smart, stubborn, complicated, funny man who often made dumb decisions. We grew up together. He lived around the corner from me from Kindergarten through HS and my Sicilian grandmother made him walk with me to school, which he resented. His older brother tortured my older brother. He tortured me (as young kids). He was two days younger than me and our Virgo personalities often clashed, but we understood each other. He loved Billy Joel. He loved history and political science and a good argument. He loved Alaska and his children. He could rock a kilt like no other and was very proud of his Scottish roots.

He was a great singer and had a deep, beautiful voice. I attended his first wedding and met all three of his wives. He had his first child (Kate) with his second wife. He told me that his third wife (Kimberly) was the love of his life. They had four children together. They lived in Alaska for many years and then moved to Virginia. They once visited me in NY.

He died too young after losing his battle with demons that wrecked his body. His family was with him and survived him, as did his parents and older brother (Scott). His ashes were laid to rest in a tiny church graveyard in Middle Spring, PA. The church was founded by Scottish-Irish Presbyterians in 1738 and it was his wish to be buried there.
