Dr. Sutton is a medical geneticist at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Dr. Sutton as been providing care to individuals with OI for over 25 years and understand the challenges they face. While there is no cure for OI and no one can make all the challenges go away, the OI Foundation (OIF) works tirelessly to support individuals with OI through their journey and provide solutions to the challenges. Having served the OIF on the medical advisory council and board of directors, Dr. Sutton has seen firsthand the impact the OIF can have and the passion and commitment of the staff and volunteers. The OIF endeavors to serve all with OI across the lifespan and there is always someone at the OIF who is just an email or phone call away.
The OIF truly creates a community and offers many ways for people to connect, whether through social media, attending a national conference, participating in a regional meeting, reading a newsletter or attending a fundraiser to help others with OI. The OIF employs a wide range of tools to support and inform the community, including healthcare toolkits for children and adults and online videos with medical information, impact grants to help individuals with medical care and equipment, and scholarships to help achieve career goals. Finally, the OIF engages with society beyond the OI community to advance research, raise awareness and advocate for policies that can improve the lives of people living with OI.
