Paul John Smithson
FEBRUARY 15, 1967 – APRIL 20, 2024
 
Paul was born February 15, 1967 to Luther and Marilyn Smithson at Stanford Hospital. Raised in Palo Alto, Paul graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1985 where he played all 4 years on the basketball team.

Paul graduated from Chico State in 1991 with a degree in Organizational Communications. He loved his years at Chico State, especially being a member of Tau Gamma Theta where he made and maintained several lifelong friendships. “Pope” as he was known, was always available for the fraternity, serving on the Alumni Board.

After graduating, Paul had a 30+ year successful career in sales. He prided himself in building relationships with clients and vendors and his personality was perfect for it, always positive and friendly.

In 1996, Paul and Britt moved to Chico where they planted roots and raised their family. Paul was a wonderful and loving husband and father. He enjoyed being a part of whatever activities his kids participated in, especially being the coach. He loved playing golf and taking trips to the coast. If he could combine the two, he was in heaven!

An avid sports fan, Paul enjoyed watching Pac 12 teams, SF 49ers, SF Giants, Oakland A’s, but his love was for basketball and he was a faithful fan to the Golden State Warriors.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Britt, son Hunter, daughter Carys, sister Kristina Grantz (Julian), brother in law, Michael Rogers (Jennifer), nieces Hannah and Kyra Grantz, Kathryn Rogers, nephew Nicholas Rogers, Uncle Wade Smithson, cousins David and Todd Smithson and David Anderson.
