LAURENCE YOUNG
I’m writing to you with both passion and purpose as I prepare for the:
FOR HEALTH WE RIDE Bike-A-Thon on July 19th, 2025
Let me ask you something: When was the last time you saw a major fundraiser specifically addressing Black men's health? Or a cancer awareness campaign that spoke directly to our brothers, uncles, and fathers?
That's why I'm all in for Praise Cathedral's For Health We Ride Bike-A-Thon on July 19, 2025. This isn't just another charity event - it's our chance to tackle the healthcare gaps hitting our community hardest:
The Hard Truth
Black men are 56% more likely to develop prostate cancer than other groups
Colorectal cancer deaths are 40% higher in Black communities
Too many of our clinics lack culturally competent care
How We're Changing This
Every kilometer I ride will fund:
🩺 Targeted cancer screening at Credit Valley Hospital
💊 Medications for Lamb's River Clinic serving Jamaica's Black communities
🩹 Prevention programs through African missions
📚 Scholarships to train more Black healthcare providers
Your Support = Real Impact
Special Opportunity
Ward 9 Councillor Martin Reid will recognize top fundraisers - let's show what our community can do when we come together!

Why This Personal
As someone who's lost loved ones to preventable illnesses, I'm tired of seeing our men suffer in silence. This ride is our statement that Black health matters.
With hope and determination,
Larry
