Lee and I met when we were teammates in gymnastics. Although Lee was only in gymnastics for three years, he finished seventh in state on the rings in his senior year. As it turned out, we married sisters and remained the best of friends. Lee was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 1985. He and his wife Janet had three children, and Janet was pregnant with their fourth at the time. He died in April of 1986. I am godfather to two of his children and am proud to say Janet raised all four who grew up to be very wonderful and successful adults. I always looked up to Lee and am a better person because he was my friend.
