Revy Kevy's Ride
Last summer I took up riding as a way to get healthier and to raise funds in support of the important work that St Aidan's is doing in our community. My personal goal was to ride the distance from London, On to Quebec City, PC. That was 1000 km. At the time it was a big stretch. But with over $7500 in sponsorship, 25-30 of you joining me for rides, it was more than doable.
This year I am upping the stakes. The ride this year will take me (figuratively) to Victoria, BC. Total distance 4700km (Canadian Travel) . My new goal is to raise $20000. This year I will add the kilometers of those who ride with me to help accrue that total. Important to note that MY PERSONAL COMMITMENT will be to ride 2200 km - (To Winnipeg) This year my goal is to finish the ride when we celebrate the Feast of St. Aidan on September 9. Many of those who will ride along with me will also be sharing this page with you. You can pledge here to support your friends who might be on tis ride as well.
As was the case last year, funds raised will support the ministry to the children and young people in our church and beyond its walls. As already noted, your support last year was tremendous. We have grown or ministry to children and young people and continue to make them a priority. I am hoping we can count on your support again this year.
This year I am also supporting Jesse's Journey. Many of you know John and Sherene Davidson, parishioners of St Aidan's. Their son Jesse was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was a young boy. As their website notes, this was "news that would change their lives forever. But this was not the end of the Davidsons’ story. This was just the beginning."
John walked 8300 km across Canada in 1998 to raise money to help fund research to defeat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Three years earlier he walked across Ontario pushing his 15 year old son Jesse in his wheelchair. That is a 3339 kilometer walk! That walk raised over two million dollars. To-date Jesse's Journey has funded nearly ten million in research.
Jesse's Journey's Walk To Defeat Duchenne is on May 27, 2018. St Aidan's will be the Leader of the Pack. Our support will account for $3000 of the monies pledged for my ride this year. St Aidan's will be the exclusive presenting sponsor. I will be walking 5 km that day, at the front of the group (at least at the start) throwing the full love and support of St. Aidan's behind the incredible work of Jesse's Journey. We will have a staffed table/booth in the walker pavilion that day to let people know about our church community. Look for our name and logo on promotions for the Walk to Defeat Duchenne
So look for me and my friends on the trails for Revy Kevy's Ride in support of St Aidan's Children and Youth and Jesse's Journey.
