CAROL FRASIER SAUNDERS (COYNE)

Beloved mother of Pamela, Stephen and Gail Frasier and wife of Robert Saunders, Carol Saunders peacefully passed away in her home on February 13, 2003, after a short illness with lung cancer. Throughout her illness she showed a special courage and dignity and faced her future with comfortable certainty. Always in charge and the pragmatist, she directed each step of her care and never had regrets. Carol was born the second child of Emily Huntington Hayes and Paul Edward Coyne in Seattle on September 8, 1940. She was raised in Seattle, graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958, worked for IBM and attended the University of Washington until she married Walter Lewis Frasier in 1962 and began her career as mother and homemaker. Carol and her husband raised three children at first in Seattle and later in Huntington Beach, California, where they moved in 1966. A year following her husband's death in 1979, Carol brought her children back to Seattle to be near the rest of her family. In April 1984 she re-met a former sweetheart, Robert Saunders. They were married in April 1985 and made their home in Seattle until the time of her death. Surviving Carol are her husband, Rob, her daughter Pam Frasier (John Worth) of McLeod, Montana, son Steve Frasier (Carolyn Busch) of Olympia, Washington, daughter Gail Frasier of Seattle, brother Chuck Coyne (Jan) of Sea-Tac, Washington, sister Katie Stull (Ron) of Union, Washington, cousin Terry Coyne (Eileen) of Mercer Island, and grandson, Erlan Frasier-Worth (presently of Karanganda, Kazakhstan, and soon to make his home with his new adoptive parents in McLeod, Montana). She has many devoted nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends from her days in school, time in California and in Seattle. Carol had a passion for golf. Her father, "PE", a local amateur champion, taught her golf swing basics when she was a teenager living on the 5th tee at Seattle's Sand Point Country Club. When she returned to Seattle in 1980, she took up the game in earnest and thereafter shared many good times with her family and friends. She was active in women's golf circles around the northwest, for several years played on the Sand Point Women's Division Golf Team and competed in many city and state tournaments. In 2002, she and her sister Katie chaired the Washington State Women's Golf Association Senior's Championship Tournament. Carol was intensely competitive, a careful student of the rules of golf and loved a friendly "game" with her pals. She had five holes-in-one during the 17 years she played. She enjoyed games and gaming, including bridge, gin rummy, dominoes, cribbage, "May I," Black Jack, Pai Gow Poker and most recently Rummikub. Carol and Katie seldom missed their twice-yearly trip to Reno or Las Vegas. She loved to dance, including country and tap. She was a fastidious dresser, and had a discriminating palate for good food and wine. But most of all, Carol enjoyed time with her large family and earned the reputation of family matriarch by bringing the family together on a regular basis. She treated the elders of her family with a special caring and the love and pride in her children will be treasured by all of us. Her friends and family will remember her for her gentleness, genuine interest in people, wonderful smile, her kindness and her sense of humor. A Celebration of her life was held at Sand Point Country Club Saturday, March 1, 2003. Remembrances may be sent to the Book-It Repertory Theatre Education Program or The Northwest Hospital and Medical Center Foundation, both of Seattle, Washington.

Carol Coyne Frasier Saunders died February 13, 2003 and it is still difficult to explain how much her family and friends miss her. Carol and I met each other at Eckstein Jr. Hi. but became close friends in the 80's when many Roosevelt women would get together for mini reunions and invite "mystery guests" who were Roosevelt grads here for visits or vacations. We supported each other as we ventured from single parenting to second marriages and the pursuit of that perfect golf game. She had five holes in one and was a terrific player. Carol typified the statement "old friends are the best" loyal, dependable, honest and a wonderful sense of humor!

Carol passed away in her home on February 13, 2003 after a short illness with lung cancer. Carol married Walt Frasier (RHS class of 56) in 1962 and began her career as mother and homemaker. She and Walt had three children (Pam, Steve, and Gail) and raised them at first in Seattle and later in Huntington Beach, CA where they moved in 1964. A year after Walt's death in 1979 Carol brought her children back to Seattle. In 1984 she re-met a former classmate, Rob Saunders (RHS class of 56) and they were married in April, 1985 and made their home in Seattle. In 1980 Carol took up golf in earnest and the game grew to be a passion of hers. Carol's grandchildren (Erlan and Watt) are now here and she would have been a proud, doting grandmother. Her family and friends all miss her very much.
