1940-01-11 2010-01-24JOANNE STEVENSON (BUCKLEY)
Joanne L. STEVENSON Joanne passed away January 24, 2010 at her home in Snohomish at the age of 70. She was born January 11, 1940 in Sebeka, MN to Wallace and Carmen Buckley. Joanne graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, 1958 and from the University of Washington in 1962 with a major in Microbiology. After graduating, she worked at Swedish Hospital, Children's Hospital and the Univer sity of Washington all in Seattle. Later she worked in laboratories in Las Vegas, Eugene, Oregon and in Spokane, Longview and Redmond, WA. She retired in January of 2000. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue for 10 years, serving and caring for many in several capacities. The last 9 years she served as a deacon. A woman of faith, she always put others' needs before her own. A gifted and award winning quilter, she was very humble about her works of art. She was a homemaker who loved cooking and canning. She was the consummate grandma who dearly loved her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jack, 2 children, Kerry and Jeffrey, a sister Joleen, five grandchildren and friends numbering in the hundreds. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Joanne Stevenson Foundation, c/o First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue.
Joanne was my close friend through J.H., H.S., College, marriage and children. Then she moved out of the area and we lost contact. Then five years ago Susan Ostling Drew, Judy Ange McClellan, Carol Anne Maiers and myself re-connected with her. Over these last years we had many Adventures and Lunches together. Our last Lunch was four days before we lost her. She was on the road of Recovery from Heart Surgery and we planned another Lunch when Judy would return from Arizona. We all thought we would see her again. There is a saying "I'am going to Live until I Die" and she absolutely did that no matter how her Health was. She would give you the Shirt off her Back if you needed it. She was truly the Poster Child, Girl and Women for the name Friend. I will miss her very much.
