Solar Energy for Rancho Santa Marta
What is Rancho Santa Marta:
The Ranch is a unique place for special needs and at-risk children in Mexico. It’s a 450-acre ranch near San Vicente, a town 60 miles south of Ensenada. The Ranch is a home for homeless, orphaned or abused children and a K-12th grade school with a mainstreaming program for children with learning disabilities. Currently 50 children call the Ranch their home and 250 students are being educated in an encouraging and caring environment. To learn more: www.ranchosantamarta.org
Why are we raising funds for the Ranch?
The Ranch is a safe haven and a tremendous help to so many children in need. Now the Ranch needs our help. Caring for so many children requires considerable financial resources. By reducing the electrical costs with a renewable PV solar energy generating system, the Ranch can free up financial resources for core activities such as enhancing the quality of educational services for the children. The project will provide a significant savings, producing approximately 70% of the total energy needs. This system will save the Ranch about $180,000 pesos ($10,000 dollars) annually.
The Ensenada Rotary Club and the Santee-Lakeside Rotary Club are teaming up to raise $57,000 to purchase a 57,285 watt, 171 panel, PV power generating system for Rancho Santa Marta.
