Luis Barbosa

Birth Date: 1952-06-21
Deceased Date: 2020-11-17
Obituary:
Luis Barbosa, 68, of Warrenville passed away on Tuesday November 17, 2020. He was born on June 21, 1952 In San Luis Potosi Mexico. He is the son of Bernabe and Rosita Hernandez-Barbosa.

At the age of 12, him and his family moved to Chicago IL. While attending grade school, he met Margarita Lopez. They stayed friends throughout the years and reconnected one day while Luis was playing at a band gig. Their relationship began in 1974 and were married on September 16, 1978. They started their family in 1980 and had 3 beautiful children.

Luis was one of the most dedicated fathers and nothing made him prouder than to see his children and grandchildren grow up. He was a cherished husband and father who supported his family in every way he could including his nieces and nephews who he loved as his own children.

Luis and his wife were both successful real estate brokers in the Chicagoland area and co-owned a real estate office, First Capital Realtors, in Chicago. He was also an accomplished trumpet player who was nicknamed by many as "Louie The Lip". He played in many bands over the years and mastered the beautiful music of different genres including mariachi, Tejano, Tropicana, and cumbia. He instilled the passion of music in his children and had the pleasure of playing with his two sons in the Tejano band, Plazer Band. Luis held his daughter, Crystal, in high regard these past seven years as she loved and cared for him and his beloved wife, Margarita.

He is survived by his devoted wife: Margarita Barbosa; his loving daughter: Crystal (Adrian Olvera) Barbosa; his two adoring sons: Luis Andres (Heather) Barbosa and Henry (Teresita) Barbosa; his two precious granddaughters: Abigail and Lily Barbosa; his two cherished grandsons: Abraham and Vincent Barbosa; his beloved brother: Juan Barbosa; his four dear sisters: Maria Montano, Juana Campos, Enriqueta Hernandez, Filiberta Valdovinos; as well as many other nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernabe and Rosita Barbosa; his three sisters: Inez, Ignacia, Inez Barbosa; and his brothers: Isabel and Ingenio Barbosa.

Thank you all for the messages of sympathy you have sent our family over the last several days. We appreciate all your kind words about our father, and we especially love hearing your memories of him.

Many of you have asked how you can help our family during this difficult time. Instead of sending plants and flowers, we ask that you donate to Luis Barbosa's funeral fund. We appreciate your support.

When we were at St. Mike's Luis played in the high school band. He sat next to me at each band practice and during recitals as well. Luis had figured out the notes to a popular song that had a trumpet solo. He taught me to play it and we tried to harmonize the notes. He was great at it. Me? Not so much. By senior year he was an accomplished trumpeter hitting the high notes with ease. His finger work was remarkable and he had already joined a Mariachi band playing at parties and weddings. I had hoped he would be able to attend our 50th but instead he may serenade us with angelic melodies. May he Rest In Peace.

School memories would be totally incomplete without remembering Mary Jo. We, along with a handful of other girls, go way back to first grade and then all the way to HS graduation. We laughed our way through bookkeeping with sleepy Sr. Alacoque and snickered when Sr. Regina sang La Cucaracha! Don’t know that we learned much in those classes, but we sure had fun. Good & happy times. So sad that she's not here reminiscing....

OMG how much I loved my friend. ???????? I started St Michael’s in 5th grade and Sister Mary Edith would put me in the closet(where we hung coats) with Kathy to teach me English. It ended up we both lived on Burling street and became best friends. And so many memories, she even slept over. My mom was a beautician and would do our hair for Easter. I was always hoping it wasn’t true about her accident because the same thing happened to one of her brothers and thought people might of confused them. Last time I remember seeing her was 1977 when she visited me to see my first born girl and she already had a boy. After that I moved to Puerto Rico for many years and we lost contact but never the great child memories of the best person in my life!! ❤️❤️❤️

My friend from the 1st day of Freshman year. She sat in the next row and thanks to the alphabetical order of Jeffries and Mueller, we lined up and it was fate. I can’t believe she’s been gone almost as long as I knew her. We had the MOST fun during our high school years. We stayed close and our kids are friends to this day. She’ll always be in my heart. Her tragic death by a hit and run driver took a mom from her four kids and a sister and daughter from her family.
