1933-01-06 2006-07-14
Samuel Myers, Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Carrie and Samuel Myers, Sr. (who preceded him in death). Samuel was raised by his loving step-mother, Estelle Myers (who preceded him in death).
He attended Birmingham, Alabama Public Schools. He served in the Army and fought in the Korean War.
Samuel united in holy matrimony to Sarah L. Hollis (who preceded him in death) on September 29, 1964. To this union five children were born. Samuel and Sarah relocated to Detroit, where he was employed with Great Lake Steel for years.
Samuel became a member of Greater True Vine in 1977 under the leadership of Pastor Lee M. Bernard.
"Sammy" as his friends called him was fun-loving father and grandfather to all his children. His favorite pastime was watching Channel 2, it didn't matter if he had cable, 'he didn't turn that channel". He loved to ride in his "wheelchair", you would think his wheelchair was a car the way he would be cruising the streets.
Sammy leaves to celebrate his homegoing his children, Anjanette, Frederick (Mary), Shonda, Michael Myers, Darius Myers of Sandusky, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, Devin (Cortez), Theottis, Frederick, Jr., LaSarah, Taylor, DeAndre, Rahim, Anjanette, Michael, Jr., Dorian and Arron; his step-daughter, Patricia Hughes and her seven children; two brothers, Frederick and Calvin Myers of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters, Madeline Rice of Cleveland, Ohio and Cathleen Osberry of Birmingham, Alabama; three aunts, Christen Harrison, Rosa Myers and Ethel Mae Myers all of Michigan; and a host of relatives and friends.
