Tana Lynn Wedum Bate was born and raised in Denver and passed away on the morning of September 21 after a long illness. Late in life she married Richard Bate who provided unflagging love, patience, and support. Tana’s life would not have been nearly as comfortable and happy had it not been for Richard. They were devoted to each other. Tana was pre-deceased by her parents, Otis L. and Mary C. Wedum, and is survived by her three siblings (Ann, John, and Bill) and by her nieces and a nephew (Kristine, Julia, Katy, Olivia, Eleanor and Spencer). Tana was the funniest person that many of us will ever know. When she wanted, she could effortlessly reduce an entire dinner table to laughing, crying, and coughing tears. Begging her to relent would only spur her on. Those who were fortunate to experience this sharp sense of humor will never forget it. Tana graduated from the University of Colorado (Boulder). She had a diverse professional career beginning at Glamor Magazine in NYC. Other positions included working for her husband, a prominent oil and gas attorney, writing a humor and jazz column at WestWord, being a corporate writer for (Glenn) Jones International University in Denver and working at TCI International, now Liberty Global. Before ill health sidelined her, Tana devoted most of her free time to her hundreds of Denver friends – many of them “media types” she met while writing for WestWord. During this period of her life, many long-gone Denver nightspots echoed with the wise cracks and hysterical laughter of Tana and one of her best friends, her sister Ann. The world is a sadder place with her passing. Her husband, sister, brothers, nieces, nephew, and many friends will never again laugh quite as hard. She will be interred with her parents in the All Souls’ Walk at St. John’s Cathedral in Denver. Tana supported Wounded Warrior Project, Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross where donations would be welcomed.
