Rebecca Sue (Perkins) Katz was born April 23, 1954. She lived in old Stapleton area until her family moved to the Hampden and Monaco area. During her attendance at Thomas Jefferson High School, she was employed at Safeway Grocery. Upon her graduation she was employed by University Hills Bank. She worked there for several years before meeting her future husband, Steven Jay Katz. Upon her marriage, She and Steven owned and managed ABC Books and Posters in the University Hills Shopping Center. Over the next several years, they expanded into art and framing. They provided an outlet for upcoming artists, Frank Howell being one of her favorites. They opened a wholesale framing company that went national. Rebecca designed her own line of frames and developed international manufacturing relationships. They traveled abroad yearly and ran those multiple businesses together.
During this time, their son Jay Steven Katz was born in August of 1984. They lived in Aurora, then Parker and moved to Breckenridge for Jay’s middle and high school years. Jay become an accomplished hockey player for the school. He graduated and went to San Diego for some college. He returned home to become part of the family business. Jay was involved in a severe accident. There was a long recovery period but all looked well. He passed away one evening which would be determined by a heart defect never detected. The accident and recovery was too much. He was at home.
Rebecca had recently lost her father, her only child passed and she would soon loose her mother. All of this was far too many losses. Rebecca died of a broken heart. Her husband passed away soon after.
She was a wife, mother, business women, wonderful sister, and devoted daughter.

Oh Becky. It saddens me to read this. I was thinking about you just the other day. I knew you at TJ but we didn't really become friends until we worked together after high school at Majestic Savings and Loan in University Hills. I loved your energy and spirit. Unfortunately, we lost touch after Majestic. I regret that.
