Nancy McDuffie
1955-05-18 2021-10-17Sunday morning the McDuffie family lost a most beloved member of our Clan. Nancy Carol McDuffie was born on May 18, 1955 in Tulsa, OK, to Robert Neill McDuffie and Carolyn (Braunlich) McDuffie. She passed into the mystic surrounded by family on October 17, 2021 at the age of 66.
Nancy grew up in Tulsa and graduated from the Memorial High School (Chargers!!). She attended Oklahoma State University taking the job of Redskin yearbook editor (Go Pokes!!), graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, Class of '77. She continued her Charger enthusiasm as a member of the scholarship selection committee.
Nancy grew up in a family with a passion for games, literature, music and the Arts. She conveyed these passions to kindred spirits from Purolator in Tulsa, to Chase Manhattan in New York City and back again to Imperial in Tulsa. Nancy collected these spirits who became friends and kept them close as family. Nancy's passion for collecting was evident in her scrapbooking; another way of keeping and making memories with family and friends. These collections conveyed her love of travel – crisscrossing America to see her favorite performers who also became friends.
Her love of games gave Nancy a chance to not only play, but teach games to three nephews and one great nephew who continues the tradition. She loved referring to herself as "One of the Greats", meaning Great Aunt to Max and Charlotte. Nancy was a cherished sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, as countless members of her circle will attest. "I've never met anyone like Nancy!" is the resounding reply to queries. Her zest and childlike wonder for life was infectious. We all loved being in her presence. She is Unforgettable!
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Robert Neill McDuffie, Jr. and Phillip McDuffie. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Deborah McDuffie of Tulsa, OK; nephews, Duncan McDuffie, Dashiell McDuffie and Sean McDuffie and his wife, Shawna; great nephew, Max McDuffie and great niece, Charlotte McDuffie.
Nancy and I were friends from 6th grade through our years as board members for MHS Scholarship program. She welcomed me when I became employed at Facet/Purolator Filter Company and we continued our mutual love of musical theater. Our friendship may have been pre-ordained as our mothers were classmates at Tulsa Central HS. I have never known anyone who was as joyous and full of life as my friend Nancy. I'll miss you at our 50th reunion.
