Donald Wayne Riddle
2012-12-26Don Riddle died peacefully at his home in Houston, TX on December 26, 2012. He loved his boxers and enjoyed taking cruises with his friends in Houston. Don loved all things music, and loved to sing. He is now reunited with his longtime partner, Robert Perry
Don and I became fast friends in band at Byrd Junior High. His "joie de vivre" was apparent even then. We spent many a weekend hanging out at Southroads Mall where we loved to roam the stores--Another Point of View (to smell the incense and laugh at the posters), Fannie Farmers Candies (to buy 1 or 2 pieces of candy), and we dined a lot at The Golden Horse Restaurant (in Vandevers on the 2nd story, looking out on the Mall) which we thought was the height of sophistication. In 8th grade I remember we went to see Gone With The Wind at the Fox Theater for 10 Saturdays in a row. Everything was filled with laughter if Don was involved. The fun continued in high school band. Don and I decorated busses together before trips, and tried to stay out of harm's way. Our senior yr. Don would drive us to the McDonalds on Yale for lunch. The ultimate mission was to drive back to the school, slowly and in the middle of the street, and pelt cars behind us with French Fries. Don was truly kind to everyone he met and was adored by all. Sleep well, Don. You will never be forgotten.
