Joyce Johnson Newton of Swepsonville passed away Tuesday afternoon July 19th, 2022 at the age of 78 after a brief illness.

     Joyce Newton was the wife of 57 years to the late Darrell Newton, mother to Seth and Philip Newton, grandmother to Colton, Brooke, Meredith, Caroline, and Luke Newton. She was a retired math teacher of 30 years at Williams High School. Joyce was a brilliant, sweet, kind, and caring woman with an infectious smile. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and had a hard time telling others no. She was always ready for a trip to get ice cream, sweets, or just a drive as long as she could spend quality time with her loved ones. She also enjoyed her time with her fellow workout partners at Davis Fitness as they enjoyed the bond they formed holding each other accountable each week. 

     She will be joining her parents Jarvis "Gene" Eugene Johnson and Daisy Thompson Johnson, her late husband Rodney Darrell Newton, her sister Shirley Dobey (husband Paul) in heaven.

     Survivors include her two sons, Seth Newton (wife Angie) of Snow Camp, and Philip Newton of Swepsonville; five grandchildren, Colton Newton, Brooke Newton, Meredith Newton, Caroline Newton, and Luke Newton. Also surviving are her brother, Jarvis "Buck" Johnson (wife Nan) of Lewisville, sister-in-law, Phyllis Newton Gumm of Mebane, brother-in-law, Raymond Herring of Swepsonville, and many special nieces and nephews.
