Lauren Elizabeth Wilburn, 36, of Elon, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Hospice Home in Burlington after 16 months of battling leukemia.

A native of Scotland County, Lauren was the daughter of William C. "Sonny" Wilburn and Virginia Shipman Wilburn, both surviving.

Lauren was an optician at the Alamance Eye Center and was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a graduate of Walter M. Williams High School and Alamance Community College. She loved spending time on the water, in the sun, and with her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, of the home, Lauren is survived by two brothers, Rick Young and his wife, Stevette, of Darlington, SC and Carl Wilburn and his wife, Katie, of Burlington; one sister, Blair Wilburn and her boyfriend, Joey Smith, of Greensboro; her maternal grandmother, Tennessee Shipman of Burlington; her paternal grandmother, Mae Wilburn of Burlington; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her beloved dogs, Fozzie and Tippy.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.

The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington, Monday, April 14, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
