James A. Ekblad, a longtime resident of Elmhurst died on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Elmhurst Hospital, at the age of 65. Former husband of Shirley (nee Nowosad); special friend of Phyllis Gorman of Indian Head Park; father of John Michael (Jackie) and Suzanne Laatsch (Glenn); grandfather of Luke; brother of Julie, Judy (Casimir Ciesla), and twin brother of JoAnn; uncle of Darby (Andy) Blanchard and Jaime (Eric) Seeber and many other nieces and nephews.

Jim was a member of York’s Class of 1970. In 1978, he became a Certified Public Accountant through the University of Illinois. Jim was a “people person,” treating all of his clients at his Elmhurst accounting firm, James A. Ekblad C.P.A. P.C., with respect and kindness for 30 years.

He contributed to his community by serving as Elmhurst City Treasurer from 1993-1997 and shared his accounting skills as Treasurer of AYSO and the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. At numerous Elmhurst Symphony concerts, you may have met Jim selling tickets and greeting patrons.

An avid champion golfer, Jim was a member of the Medinah Country Club. On Saturday, June 16, family and close friends celebrated his life at a gathering at Medinah, his favorite place. They will especially miss his infectious laugh that began in childhood, watching “The Three Stooges.”

Donations in his memory can be made to the Elmhurst Symphony, P.O. Box 345, Elmhurst, IL; or to the Lurie Children’s Foundation, Circle of Friends at foundation.luriechildrens.org
