Dwight Grimestad

DECATUR – Dwight E. Grimestad, age 67, of Decatur, Illinois, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Saturday, June 22, 2019, after battling Glioblastoma brain cancer for almost 23 months.
Dwight was born December 27, 1951 in Chicago, IL, the son of Erling O and Olive R. (Pedersen) Grimestad.
Dwight graduated from Northwestern University in Chemical Engineering and Harvard Business School specializing in Finance. During Dwight’s career, he worked as a Product Engineer, Water Treatment Sales, Product Management, Investor Relations, and Vice President for Corporate Strategy before retiring from Archer Daniels Midland in 2013. Dwight enjoyed his family, eating out, and playing golf and tennis with friends. He also enjoyed traveling, seeing his children and grandchildren and spending time with his wife Barbara of 45 years. Dwight had an incredible sense of humor, and a real heart for giving to the Lord’s work. In addition, Dwight had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ, and was involved in Lampstand Church and numerous missions across the world. Dwight enjoyed his ’68 GTO and the Northwestern Wildcats and Chicago Cubs.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Decatur, IL; Children D. Erik (Ami) Grimestad of Charlotte, NC, Kirsten (Nate) Laflin of Farmingdale, ME, Katrina Grimestad of Raleigh, NC; precious granddaughters Ava Laflin and Laila Laflin; sister Darlene (Bob) Pehlke of Naperville, IL and brother Craig (Joann) Grimestad of Westmont, IL. In addition, Dwight is survived by many dear cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. He will be greatly missed!
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, June 30, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. A funeral service will be held on Monday. July 1, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at Lampstand Presbyterian Church, 655 S Airport Rd., Decatur, IL 62521 with visitation beginning at 9:30 am until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the National Brain Tumor Society. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
