Dave Hosteland
1952-01-04
Born January 4, 1952. Died early February, 2018. Davey grew up with me and Steve Brasie on South Parkside. I'm not sure about his time at York as he was sent to military school for at least part of high school.
He joined the Army in the ‘70s and was trained as a medic and stationed in Germany. He lived in Colorado for a time.
He was in and out of my life until I got an invitation out of the blue to his wedding to Becky in the ‘90s; then we stayed in contact fairly regularly. He even bought one of my motorcycles. After we moved and I started consulting in Joliet occasionally, we got together for dinner on many of my trips North.
He worked as a tech on several movies shot in Chicago. He worked for Illinois DES as a veterans’ contact specialist until his obesity got him a permanent disability. When his birthday popped up on facebook in 2018, I realized he had stopped posting, so I called, but he hung up. I learned later that he had an amputation the summer before; I suspect he had diabetes.
He passed in early February & I went to his memorial March 17, 2018, St. Paddy's Day.
Memorial from classmate and good friend Cliff Counsell
