Caryn S. Leahy nee Nyberg, age 67, of Homewood passed away on December 20 at her home with her family by her side.
Beloved wife of Jerrold Leahy. Loving mother of Jerrold Leahy II and Brendan (Kathi) Leahy. Cherished grandmother of Elliott and Emilia. Dear sister of Jack (Marianne) Nyberg and Cathy (Kevin) Lidgus. Fond aunt of Adam Lidgus, Jamie Uczen, Moira Leahy, and Sinead Leahy-Harrison.
Caryn was a 1970 Graduate of York High School and 1974 graduate at Western Illinois University with a B.A. in Education. From 1985-2016 she worked at Eisenhower Cooperative Care Program (a program for students with emotional disturbances in Crestwood, IL).
As a primary school special education teacher Caryn helped thousands of children to have more rewarding lives by meeting their individualized needs and providing a nurturing environment to learn and grow. Her genuine love and dedication for her students and fellow teachers made her a pillar of the Care Program as well as a cherished friend and colleague.
An unwavering and supportive advocate for her family, friends, and students, Caryn’s love and loyalty knew no bounds. Her love for life was infectious and she instilled some of her optimism and empathy in everyone she met. Caryn’s radiant spirit lives on in all our hearts and is embodied in her two beloved grandchildren.
Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood on Thursday December 26 from 2 pm until the time of service at 7 pm. Private cremation to follow.
