Margaret Lee McDonald
1907-02-28 1994-03-17
Oh, that I had wings like a dove! For I would fly away and be at rest.
Margaret Lee Kemp McDonald received her wings as she laid down her weary body to rest on Thursday, March 17, 1994, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A native of Guilford County, she was born on February 28, 1907, to the late Rev. Edgar Henry Kemp and Mrs. Hattie Jeffries Kemp.
A graduate of Livingstone College, her earlier years were spent teaching children in Hiddenite, N. C. Later she moved north and composed a private business as a laundress. During this time, she joined Majority Baptist Church in St. Albans, N. Y. After living in Springfield Gardens, N. Y., for fifty years, she returned to Greensboro, N. C. in 1990.
Several family members have preceded her in death. Imagine the glorious reunion of her spouse, Mr. Arthur MacDonald, Springfield Gardens, N. Y.; her daughter, Mrs. Ruth MacDonald Leaverson, Springfield Gardens, N. Y.; sisters, Ms. Garbelle Kemp, Greensboro, N. C., Mrs. Juanita Kemp Ballard, Brevard, N. C.; brothers, Mr. Edgar Davis Kemp, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mr. Joseph Kemp, Springfield Gardens, N. Y.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Mr. Edward S. Kemp, New York, N. Y.; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Palmer, Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Ruby Young, Greensboro, and Mrs. Veda Wood, Bronx, N. Y.; one son-in-law, Mr. T. R. Young, Greensboro, N. C.
She was blessed with the devotion, love, and caregiving of a grandson, Mr. Aaron Wood of the home; granddaughter, Mrs. Wanda Williams of the home, and her spouse, Mr. Bobby Williams.
Precious memories will linger with the sisters, Mrs. Martha Kemp Yarborough, Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Mary Kemp Peace, Philadelphia, PA, and Mrs. Cozette Notra Kemp Mitchell of Riverside, C.A.
Love, appreciation, and adoration will exist for years to come in the remaining fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of many other relatives and friends: also, a lovely and devoted friend, Ms. Florence Woods of St. Albans, N. Y.
