I have always loved drawing and painting and have been doing both since age eight. At age fourteen I did my first oil painting in Miss Reichert class and from then on I was hooked into the creative process. I have to give credit to both art teachers Miss Reichert and Miss Bunt. Their knowledge and encouragement sparked the fire of creativity in me. In the early 1980’s I studied pastel painting and was excited about this medium of expression. Got married, raised a daughter, then went to college. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington then received an Art Education Teaching Certificate from Central Washington University.
I taught drawing, painting and arts & crafts to grades seven through twelve. Oddly enough, still learning as I taught art-reiterating what Miss Reichert and Miss Bunt taught me as well as university art school.
Painting for me is connecting with a purpose in life. I am most happy and peaceful when I am painting or expressing creativity in some form. Whether “it” is one second or a moment in time, a sublime expression of an object, or an inspiration of color, I am driven to record and express whatever “it” is in that moment.
Drawing and painting realistically draws me into the abstract shapes and forms. I am usually drawing or thinking of an abstract composition initially. Then I develop the drawing/painting into a realistic expression.
Currently, I have been devoting more of my time to the pastel medium painting abstracts, clouds, fabrics, landscapes, still life and trees. I am a member of the Okanogan County Artists Association. I feature works in the annual Omak Stampede Western and Native Art Show. Also, I exhibit works in the Two Rivers Gallery in Wenatchee, WA., Omak businesses, and galleries in Osoyoos, Canada.
