MYRLE R. (TINGSTAD) BLIM
Myrle R. (Tingstad) Blim, 84, Overland Park, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from
complications of cardiopulmonary disease. Born in Virginia, Minnesota, on June 25, 1927 to Clifford and Jessie (Beatty) Tingstad, she grew up in Cook, Minnesota, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she
graduated high school as an honor student and later worked for the local school board. Shortly after she moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to become an airline hostess for Mid-Continent Airlines, she met a KU medical school student at a party, and the two became Dr. and Mrs. R. Don Blim in April of 1952. Myrle resided for nearly 30 years in Mission Hills, Kasnas, and then in Missouri neighboring Loch Lloyd before moving to the Tallgrass Creek community in Overland Park. While raising her three children, she was active in the PTA, taught Sunday School at the Village Presbyterian Church, and regularly performed ice dances in figure skating shows as a member of the Carriage club. Later, she devoted herself to breeding, raising, and showing champion German Shepherds and, eventually, to doting on her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love of family and summer vacations with them on Lake Vermillion in Minnesota, her compassion for the less fortunate, and her
enthusiasm for music, dancing, the Kansas City Chiefs, and KU Basketball. She is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Rick (Cindy) Blim of Overland Park, Carol (Ted) Kelly of Leawood, and John (Jill) Blim of Oak Park, Illinois; brother Jerry (Adja) Tingstad of Helsinki, Finland; and seven grandchildren. Myrle also had another brother, Jim (Phyllis) Tingstad of Tucson, Arizona,
who was 18 months her junior and who, although a thousand miles away, died three hours after her. Memorial services will be held at D. W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS, on Wednesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Tallgrass Creek, 13800 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions either to the "KU Endowment - Alzheimer's Disease Center".
