Randy Rae Bethke

Birth Date: 1956-09-18
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2022-04-30
Obituary:
Randy R. Bethke, 65, Sioux Falls, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, in his home, with his wife, Karen beside him.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday, June 6, 2022, 2pm, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. (1700 S. Cliff Ave.) Please join the family to share stories, laughter, and tears. Cards may be sent to 744 Justus Ave., Unit 1, Harrisburg, SD, 57032.

Randy Rae Bethke was born on September 18, 1956, to Herman and Delores (Hage) Bethke, in Sioux Falls, SD. Randy and Karen were married October 25, 2002, in Sioux Falls, SD. They could never remember their anniversary date, so it was always a running joke that they celebrated from the 18th to the 26th of every October.

Randy loved all things outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending as much time as possible by the water. The stories he would share from hunting and fishing were priceless. He could also tell you how and where to catch any fish, maybe even give the exact coordinates. He even kept calendars marked with who he was with, where they were, and what they caught.

Randy had a contagious smile, a mischievous laugh, immense love for his family, and a solid taste in good music. He had a love for his grandchildren that they will carry with them, furthermore, they all had some great memories with him that they will cherish for years to come. He was devoted to his wife and loved to find her treasures; she never knew what he would bring home. You always knew when he was on the phone with his brother, Robert, you could hear the laughter from anywhere in the house and the stories would follow suite after the call ended. Randy also liked a tasty meal; he would have to heat his one plate of food several times before finishing and savored every bite. It is a family joke that we all had several helpings before he finished his first.

Grateful for having shared his life with his many family members, Randy is survived by wife, Karen; daughter, Brandi (Anthony) McCuen, son, Derek (Stephanie) Johnson, daughter, Jessica (Grant) Rahm; his grandchildren, Graeyson, Baereht, Morgan, Hannah, Ava, and Aspen; one brother, Robert (Allene) Bethke; and his nieces and nephews

Randy is preceded in death by his father, Herman; his mother Delores; his brothers, Glenn and Gerry

David Mark Bowen

Birth Date: 1955-12-27
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2021-10-15
Obituary:
David Mark Bowen: Born December 27, 1955, lived life on this earth until October 15, 2021. Age of death 65 years, 10 months.

Dave was born in Martin, South Dakota & was adopted on February 24, 1956 to Emerson & Joyce Bowen of Sioux Falls. He grew up & was educated in Sioux Falls, graduating from Lincoln HS in 1974. Dave worked for Sears, Metz Baking Co. (Old Home), & AT&T. He had a long career in the telecom industry, working until his retirement.

Like many young people of the Vietnam War generation, Dave and his friends were ready to celebrate life. One notable common interest was the appreciation for performance automobiles produced in the 60s and early 70s. Dave's pristine black high performance 1969 SS Camaro was envied by auto enthusiasts everywhere. He kept it in immaculate mechanical and physical condition.

Snowmobiling was the winter activity for a group of friends in Sioux Falls. Many a cold day and night was spent riding on the Sioux River, which winds through and around Sioux Falls. Countless trips were also made out to watch snowmobile racing locally.

Dave also enjoyed riding and owning off and on road motorcycles. A number of the guys would plan and take an annual Memorial Day weekend trip to central South Dakota riding dirt bikes and climbing the hills of the Missouri river banks. In one of the years, heavy rain came one evening and flooded the campsite. The boys had their motorcycles, tool boxes, tents, sleeping gear, coolers, and yes even the pickup trucks and trailers flooded with smaller items getting washed away by rushing flood waters into a bay of the Missouri River.

Water skiing and boating was also enjoyed not only in various South Dakota locations but in Minnesota at the lake cabin. Snow skiing was learned in the early years as well. Friends and family would look forward to Colorado trips going to various ski resorts for a day or more every winter. With the longer days and warming weather early spring skiing was a favorite of many.

Pheasant hunting was another outdoor activity enjoyed numerous years along with a Colorado elk hunt to celebrate Dave's 40th birthday with a group of close friends. Dave always had a deep knowledge of firearms, learning history and sharing this knowledge to help and educate.

Camping was a fun activity shared with friends and later on with Renee and children. The motorhome racked up many miles traveling around Colorado and to various locations in the United States to enjoy life with family and friends.

And did I mention golf?! Dave gained a love for the game from his parents at an early age at Cactus Heights, a local golf course, and playing countless rounds throughout his life at numerous courses in the country. He and his family were avid golfers who enjoyed frequent rounds at the Olde Course in Loveland, where more balls were found than lost.

Dave loved his family and his many countless friends. He welcomed all with open arms when visiting, always ready to entertain and enjoy life. He made it a priority to ensure time was scheduled on each trip to catch up and reminisce. Especially reminisce!

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Renee, son Zachary (good friend Jess), daughter Elizabeth, sister Mary (Eric) Berkness - Kyra (Nick), Alex (Emily) & Inlaws DJ (Dave) Greenagel, Jeff (Laurie) Taylor, Cindy (Maurice) Skogen, Penny Taylor, along with a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by their infant daughter, Sara, his parents Emerson & Joyce, great grandparents Earl & Irene Bowen & Harry & Olive Schillerstrom, and Renee's parents Bob & Lucy Taylor.

Growing up Ellie enjoyed summers with friends at Guthrie Grove Church camps and retreats. She had very strong faith in her church, The Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints, or Community of Christ. Her fondest childhood memories were those spent with grandparents and cousins, which were always filled with love and blessings. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1974 and later attended the University of South Dakota. In high school, she met the love of her life Barry Matson, and in June of 1978, they were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children, Beau and Megan. Her children recall spending their younger years in dressing rooms, sometimes until the lights turned off and doors were locked. No matter the occasion, Ellie always had the head-to-toe look.

Despite the health issues Ellie faced she never lost her exceptional resilience and strength.

Most of all, Ellie loved her family and cherished time with her two children and six grandchildren. Her free time was spent with the lights of her life, her grandkids. Ellie was given the name “Geebee” by her first granddaughter, Taylor, and that title remained with the following five.
